An important tool that our Pinpoint Weather Team and meteorologists all over the country use to track storms will be changing for the better this spring.
Below is a radar image from a storm in Oklahoma. The two images on the left are the way meteorologists currently look at storms up close. On the right is a new image of how a storm will look on radar. You'll notice the greater detail. The upgrade will take place at the National Weather Service and Department of Defense radar sites nationwide. It is expected to happen at the Tallahassee, Valdosta, Dothan and Eglin Air Force Base radar sites in the middle of May.
Now, Pinpoint Meteorologists will be able to use their own on-site radar with National Weather Service radars to get a more detailed look at thunderstorms and other weather phenomenon.
