It is estimated that over half of Florida's households have pets and 25 percent of animal owners refuse to evacuate without them. Tallahassee resident Danielle Boudreaux and her rescued pup Maisy come to Tom Brown Park once a week.
Danielle says Maisy is just like any other member of her family and she can't imagine not having a plan in place for her.
She said, "For humans, we're supposed to have a certain amount of water that we keep for ourselves, but I would say keep just the same amount of water for dogs too. So double check your water supply. She drinks a lot of water. Actually, she drinks more than I do."
The governor says Florida has become the national leader in disaster planning for animals.
