Hurricane Felix rapidly intensified Sunday afternoon as it passed north of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, and Curacao).
Its west-northwestward motion is expected to continue for several more days, which would bring the hurricane south of Jamaica on Monday. A track toward either Central America or Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula is forecast by Wednesday.
A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for Jamaica and Grand Cayman. That means tropical storm force winds are possible in those areas.
Felix is expected to stay far enough away from Jamaica to keep the hurricane force winds away from the island.
The warm waters of the Caribbean and very light winds above the hurricane should favor intensification. In fact, Felix may reach category 5 status at any time over the Caribbean.
The storm is not expected to have an impact on our area.
