Ancient Weather Researchers Set Up in Untouched Florida Cave

Marianna, FL -- February 15, 2012 --

This is the belly of Dragon's Tooth cave at Florida Caverns State Park.

And these are the first pieces of video ever shot in the cave.

The pristine, untouched piece of nature is being studied in depth for the first time by Darrel Tremaine and his team of researchers. They're hoping to unlock the secrets of weather patterns thousands of years ago.

Darrel Tremaine, Ancient Weather Researcher says, "What we're really trying to do is compare this one to the last one. And the fact that this is a natural cave that's gated, pristine, it's been gaurded for 50 years, we really can't get a better spot than this."

This cave was discovered in the early 70s, and besides from park rangers and a select few, no one is allowed inside.

The team from FSU is working with the State of Florida Parks to partner up and make this research possible.

Brian Kilgore, Undergrad Chemistry Researcher says, "As much as everyone focuses on weather and climate change, it's exciting to be right there at the front of it, looking at what's going on today, taking that and comparing that to the past and telling what is different and what will be different."

Tremaine's group is hoping to keep their equipment deep underground for at least a year, and maybe even two.

In that span, they expect to collect pieces of data and samples of stalagmites that will show us what weather and climate was like on Earth thousands of years ago, and how to protect our planet in the future.

Darrel Tremaine says, "It kills me to have equipment sitting in the lab and not collecting data. So the more time underground we get with that stuff, the better we can understand what's going on."

Brian Kilgore says, "This gives me another window to look see what the world is doing and how it's changing."

All who speak of fantasies should join the rest of us in reality. Where warmer weather is not "global warming" and liberal sciences doesn't try to prove its own liberal theories over and over. Why don't we rip down all our solar panels like Reagan did and focus on using our natural resources like natural gas (fracking) and oil (gulf of Mexico). One methane leak or one oil spill shouldn't stop what works.

Man and fire is much different than 9 billion men and technology. A car gets hot enough to boil 4 gallons of water. There were about 50 million cars ( produced in 2009. That's 200 million gallons that come close to boiling every day for 15-30 minutes. And that's only part of the heat loss from burning carbon....

With over 50,000,000 barrels of oil per day since 1980 (, there are significant climate changes. This is not to say oil is the problem, but it is having an effect on weather. If CAT 5 storms become the norm, we want to know now, not after a season of Katrinas.

There have been significant climate changes for millions of years long before man even discovered how to make fire, the first carbon production. Ice ages came and they went away due to global warming, did they not?. Take a look at Chandlers Wobble to understand what causes global climate change.. Poor little insignificant man cannot cause Ice Ages.....nor stop them.

Is your statement based on your own research? Or something you read? Can you point people to either your own research or the scientific research you read?

Good for them! Hooray for science!

So how much is this costing? Who really cares what the weather was last month, much less a bunch of years ago...

I bet they find man made global warming

This was written by fake Gerry. All scientists always find that the theory of evolution is correct and the theory of gravity is correct. If anthropocentric global warming is occurring, why would scientists not find that it is occurring? Who benefits if anthropocentric global warming is occurring and is denied and no action is taken?

Whatever happened to mc, the Tea Party cretin? Jack is back and still smirking normally. The reply at 8:40 PM was written by the original Gerry poster. The replies at 6:07 PM and 8:10 AM were written by others.
