Governor Rick Scott made his rounds inside of the Florida Emergency Operations Center Friday. He was there for a briefing on Tropical Storm Karen.

"We're clearly going to do the right things to make sure our citizens are safe."

Scott wanted his message about the government shut down to be clear - it would not affect the performance of aid to Florida citizens in time of need.

"If they don't do their job, which we've been assured they will, the state of Florida will step in and make sure it's taken care of."

He further stated that the national guard will be available and that those people who needed to be taken off furlough were taken off.

Now, as North Floridians wait to hear more about Tropical Storm Karen, it's a reminder to properly prepare to help weather any storm.

"We had a few people come in and buy generators getting prepared just in case. What I hear [is] that power easily goes out down here," said Jamali Thomas, a manager with Lowe's.

"Everybody be prepared, we'll see what happens. Hopefully, we're going to prepare for the worst and hope for the best."

Governor Scott said FEMA will be available just in case. A team of 34 members have made it to our area and were expected to be at the Emergency Operations Center Friday to help with planning efforts.
