Still No Power for 150,000 in West Virginia

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- July 7, 2012

Nearly 150,000 utility customers remain without power in West Virginia as excessive heat warnings are being issued across the state.

Appalachian Power reported 75,741 customers without power on Saturday, while MonPower said 48,563 customers are still seeking power.

The outages are the result of storms that swept over the state on June 29. In Kanawha County, more than 18,000 Appalachian Power customers remain without power.

The county has established cooling centers and shelters where residents without power can find some relief from the heat, which could hit 100 degrees.

Ice and water distribution centers are also open.
