North Carolina Evacuations

OCRACOKE, NC -- As Hurricane Irene makes her way to the U.S. Atlantic Coast, vacationers along North Carolina's Outer Banks were cutting short their summer sojourns and heading home.

Evacuations began on North Carolina's Outer Banks Wednesday as Hurricane Irene strengthened to a Category 3 storm over the Bahamas. Currituck and Dare counties were expected to begin made evacuation preparations

Vacationers on Ocracoke Island are being evacuated. But so far, they are the only ones ordered out.
