Chipley, Florida- August 29, 2012

Hurricane Isaac Road Advisory Update – Number 7

Chipley – The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is providing an update on road and bridge closures and restrictions in Northwest Florida due to Hurricane Isaac.

Scheduled highway maintenance and construction will resume Wednesday, Aug. 29. FDOT has suspended interstate maintenance and construction until further notice. All rail, transit and seaport facilities are functioning as normal.

Tolls on the Garcon Point Bridge in Santa Rosa County will be reinstated as of 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday, Aug. 29.

Escambia County

· Via de Luna Road east of Portfina closed due to flooding.

· 9th Avenue/State Road (S.R.) 289 from Romana Street to Bayfront Parkway closed due to water across roadway.

· Fort Pickens Road at the entrance to Fort Pickens is closed.

Franklin County

· The St. George Island Bridge/State Road (S.R.) 300 is now open.

· Mill Road is restricted one mile north of the intersection of U.S. 98 and River Road in Carrabelle due to flooding.

· Intersection of Gulf Shore Road at Alligator Drive is restricted due to water on the roadway.

· North Sawyer Street in Eastpoint is restricted due to the water on the road.

· East Pine Street in Eastpoint is restricted due to the water on the road.

Gulf County

· County Road (C.R.) 20 near Wewahitchka is closed from White Drive to Overstreet Road.

· Jarrott Daniels Road near S.R. 22 is closed.

Okaloosa County

· Meigs Drive closed due to water on roadway.

Santa Rosa County

· J.E. Bowden Way (C.R. 399) between Pensacola and Navarre is closed.

· Peter Prince Field Airport is closed.

Walton County

· DeFuniak Springs Airport is closed but is expected to reopen at 1 p.m. CDT Wednesday, Aug. 29.

Motorists are encouraged to monitor weather reports and road conditions and to be on the lookout for flooded roads. If the road ahead is flooded, turn around and find an alternate route. Flooded roads may hide the fact that the roadway is washed out underneath and as little as six inches of rushing water can force your car off the road.

The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) is providing an update on road and bridge closures and restrictions in Northwest Florida due to Tropical Storm Isaac.

FDOT has suspended interstate and highway maintenance and construction indefinitely to allow for an increase in traffic as motorists evacuate from the Florida panhandle coastline area. All rail, transit and seaport facilities are functioning as normal.

Escambia County
· Pensacola International Airport will suspend operations beginning at 11:59 p.m. Monday, Aug. 27 until further notice. The last flight is scheduled to arrive at 11:15 p.m.

Santa Rosa County
· At the direction of the Florida State Emergency Operations Center, tolls were suspended on the Garcon Point Bridge in Santa Rosa County at 8 a.m., EDT, Monday, Aug. 27 to aid in evacuation efforts. Tolls will remain suspended until further notice.

Walton County
· Law enforcement officials are expected to close the Choctawhachee Bay Bridge on U.S. 331 (State Road 83) Monday, Aug. 27 once wind speeds reach 40 mph.

All county courthouses in the Second Judicial Circuit of Florida (Franklin, Gadsden, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, and Wakulla Counties) will be open tomorrow, Tuesday, August 28, 2012, reports Trial Court Administrator, Grant Slayden.

1st Circuit (Panhandle): Escambia County courts will be closed Tuesday, August 28, 2012. No decision has been made regarding Wednesday at this time.

Persons scheduled for Plea Day before Judge Williams on Tuesday, August 28th have been rescheduled to Friday, August 31st at 1:00 pm

Persons scheduled for Docket Day before Judge Shackelford on Tuesday, August 28th have been rescheduled to Thursday, August 30th at 8:30 am

Santa Rosa County will be closed Tuesday, August 28 and Wednesday, August 29, 2012.

Walton County will be closed Tuesday, August 28, 2012.

No closures are anticipated in Okaloosa County

- Franklin County Schools pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade will be in session Monday, Aug. 27 until 1:15 p.m. Our buses will be picking students up in the morning as normal. We are aware of the mandatory evacuations in progress. Any family that is evacuated must pick-up their students by 1:15 p.m. No decisions regarding school opening or closing have been made beyond Monday.
