Associated Press Release

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Florida's Division of Emergency Management says dangerous rip currents are expected to continue this week along the state's Atlantic coast.

Officials say a high risk of rip currents is expected from Miami-Dade through Volusia counties. Beaches in northeast Florida and in Florida's western Panhandle have a moderate risk of rip currents.

A meteorologist with the division says ocean swells combined with spring tides are increasing the risk of rip currents.

The fast, powerful currents can be dangerous to swimmers. Sixteen people were pulled from rough waters along Palm Beach County on Sunday. One swimmer was hospitalized in critical condition.
