The American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter has closed all shelters in our eight county area.

Red Cross Volunteer personnel are still being staged at the chapter attending briefings and job assignments. Volunteers from all over the nation are here in a wait mode to be released to their job function as part of the Red Cross response to Hurricane Isaac. Some of these job functions include; Mass Care, Nursing, and Mental Health.

People can send donations to support American Red Cross Disaster Relief. Consider making a donation today by visiting www.tallyredcross.org , calling 850-878-6080 or texting the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Contributions may also be sent to your local Red Cross chapter, 1115 Easterwood Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32311. Contributions enable the Red Cross to prepare for and provide shelter, food, emotional support and other assistance in response to disasters.

The American Red Cross shelters, feeds and provides emotional support to victims of disasters; supplies nearly half of the nation's blood; teaches lifesaving skills; provides international humanitarian aid; and supports military members and their families. The Red Cross is a charitable organization — not a government agency — and depends on volunteers and the generosity of the American public to perform its mission. Red Cross Opens Shelters

In preparation of heavy rains and the potential of flooding from TS Isaac, the American Red Cross Capital Area Chapter is opening the following shelters.

1. Liberty County – 1st Baptist Church in Bristol at noon today.

2. Leon County --- Florida High is currently open as a special needs shelter

Other shelters remain on stand-by and will be opened as needed.

Residents who are considering locating to a shelter should visit our web site at www.tallyredcross.org for information on “May I Come To Your Shelter” which answers questions about our shelter operations.
