Tropical Storm Don forms in southern Gulf

MIAMI (AP) -- Tropical Storm Don has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico and its track over the next several days shows that it's headed toward southeastern Texas.

The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Wednesday that it doesn't appear the storm will strengthen into a hurricane.

Forecasters say maximum sustained winds are at 40 mph (65 kph). The center of the storm is about 755 miles (1215 kilometers) east-southeast of Corpus Christi, Texas.

No coastal watches or warnings are in effect.

NORTHWESTWARD MOTION IS EXPECTED DURING THE NEXT 48 HOURS. ON THE
FORECAST TRACK...THE CENTER OF DON SHOULD MOVE THROUGH THE
SOUTHERN AND CENTRAL GULF OF MEXICO TONIGHT AND THURSDAY...AND
APPROACH THE COAST OF THE NORTHWESTERN GULF OF MEXICO FRIDAY.

THAT MAXIMUM SUSTAINED WINDS ARE NEAR 40 MPH...65 KM/H...WITH

TROPICAL STORM FORCE WINDS EXTEND OUTWARD UP TO 45 MILES...75 KM
