WASHINGTON, D.C. (WCTV) -- We are proud to announce that we have received a national honor for a local cause that's near and dear to our hearts here at WCTV Eyewitness News.
The National Association of Broadcasters Education Fund has honored us for our Peanut Butter and Jelly Jam. The two-week drive collects jars of peanut butter and jelly for struggling families.
Our Washington Bureau’s Ted Fioraliso reported live from the ceremony Tuesday in our nation’s capital.
The celebration, which took place at the beautiful Mellon Auditorium, honors local broadcasters at television and radio stations from across the country who are doing great things in their community.
The NABEF is awarding three local television stations the “Service to Community Award” – including WCTV -- for the Peanut Butter and Jelly Jam.
WCTV Anchor Julie Montanaro, News Director Jeff Schlesser and General Manager Heather Peeples accepted the award.
Our sister station in Flint, Michigan also took home an award for their baby diaper drive, and three other Gray Television stations were honored as finalists.
