BAINBRIDGE, Ga. (WCTV) -- Georgia Governor Nathan Deal announced Thursday that Taurus USA will be moving its headquarters to Bainbridge.

"Welcome Taurus USA. Welcome to South Georgia," said Gov. Deal, a featured speaker at the Gubernatorial Announcement.

Taurus USA is a leading manufacturer for firearms, and has been based out of South Florida for more than 30 years.

"Seeing this crowd is absolutely amazing to us and it really makes us feel like we made the right decision," said Taurus USA CEO David Blenker.

He says they plan to break ground on their new manufacturing plant at the Decatur County Industrial Park in September 2018.

"When you're spending $22.5 million, you're not going to pick up and leave a year from now. You're making an investment that's going to be here for a lifetime," said Gov. Deal.

Deal says establishing the plant in Bainbridge will create 300 new jobs and invest more than $22.5 million in infrastructure and operations.

"It's always a good thing when a new business opens up in a small town, especially for us as a community. We need that and we need more people here," said Jared Godwin, owner of Bonnie Blue House restaurant.

Local businesses and members of the community say they feel honored to be selected for the new headquarters. Local leaders say it's just the start of a long term relationship that will change lives across the region.

Taurus USA CEO says they're hoping to have the facility up and running by 2020.
