VALDOSTA, Ga. (WCTV) -- A local food bank is preparing to feed thousands across South Georgia, just in time for Thanksgiving.

Second Harvest will hand out 2,000 boxes of food at Valdosta High School on November 21st. The boxes cost $5 and can feed a family of four for up to a week.

From the experiences of the volunteers, they know that the holidays can be tough on any household.

Eliza McCall of Second Harvest said, “It’s working families. It’s veterans. It can be active duty military. It’s people who have fallen on hard times because they have had an illness. Most of us are only one thing away from experiencing hunger. One job loss. One major bill. One accident.”

The food bank is looking for sponsors and volunteers to help with the giveaway.
