THOMAS CO., Ga. (WCTV) -- A surplus of military equipment is now helping Thomas County deputies.
Friday afternoon, the Thomas County Sheriff's Office tested out their newest aim points during their enhancement active shooter training.
After making a request through GEMA, TCSO received 47 of them.
They say they're called close combat optics and enhance the quality of the shot.
"It improves their accuracy tremendously because these optics are zeroed to those weapons. Once those optics are zeroed, if their target is within their window all they will have to do is squeeze the trigger," said Lt. Tim Watkins, with TCSO.
Before, deputies were using the iron sites that came with the weapon.
They say their new aim points can cost up to $800 each, but came at no cost to the department and local taxpayers.
