THOMASVILLE, Ga. (WCTV) -- An 8-year-old boy in Thomasville passed away on Thursday morning. The Georgia State Patrol says it comes after he was injured in a golf cart accident on Sunday.

It happened in the neighborhood of Oak Trace Drive.

Troopers say an 11-year-old was driving the cart with three other small kids.

They believe the kids were playing a game in the road, which led to accidentally running over the child.

"This is a tragedy," says Tommy Peeples, with Thomasville's GSP Post. "Two families are suffering now and it's a very unfortunate situation."

The boy was transferred to Tallahassee Memorial, before succumbing to severe head injuries.

Family and friends were visiting with the family Thursday afternoon.

Troopers say it's still an ongoing investigation.

There's no word on any pending charges at this time.
