TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) -- A woman was airlifted to a burn center after being rescued from a fire in an apartment building Saturday morning.

Crews with Bainbridge Public Safety and Decatur County Fire & Rescue responded to the King West Apartments around 8:12 a.m.

Firefighters say they found heavy black smoke coming from a single unit and forced their way inside through the front door. DCFR says the couch and surrounding furnishings in the living room were on fire. Crews extinguished the flames before searching the rest of the apartment.

Fire crews say they found an unresponsive woman in the bathroom and removed her from the building through a window in the hallway. She was transported to Bainbridge Memorial Hospital, and then airlifted to a regional burn center.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
