Officials say young drivers are easily distracted because of their inexperience on the road. Now lawmakers in the Peach State are one step closer from banning young drivers from texting while driving.

Senate Bill 360 prohibits anyone 18 or younger from using wireless telecommunication devices while driving -- specifically talking about texting.

The bill was introduced in the beginning of the session and was unanimously approved by the Senate on Thursday.

While some teenagers say they don't like the idea of not being able to text while driving, others in our area agree with the bill.

"I tihnk it's a good thing because texting it distracts you from stuff you're doing and it could distract you from the road and you could hurt somebody," 11th grader Taquana Wilson said.

"Texting while driving is hazardous it can lead to death, wrecks, crashes all kind of negative things and I wouldn't want to see that happen to anyone," 11th grader Chrystal Williams said.

The bill will hit drivers with a fine of up to $150.00 if they're caught texting and will add points to their license.

The next step is for the House to approve the bill and Governor Sonny Perdue to sign it. If so, it'll go into effect July 1st.
