School Dress Code Causes Heated Debate
Brooks County High School students face suspension over pink hair and black nails. Brooks County High School students started a petition to allow dyed hair and dark nail polish after school officials threatened suspension. The students feel they are being targeted.

Some Brooks County High School students have started a petition to allow dyed hair and dark nail polish, sparking a heated debate at the school.
The students say that a fellow classmate was threatened with suspension after being called out for having pink hair and black fingernail polish as well as dark makeup.
When contacted, a Brooks County High School administrator denied knowing about the petition.
So far the students have gotten over 100 fellow classmates to sign the petition and the number appears to be growing.
One of the students started a Facebook page called "School Dress Code Dilemma" which has received over 70 comments.
The students feel they are being specifically targeted and some parents agree. Andrea Stevens, the mother of one student, said "I don't understand if they're wanting to implement this on all the kids than they need to do it to all the kids, not just a certain few."

well, i agree with you there. there are some rights to both sides of the argument here. Us students are just fighting for our rights. Or at least for the right to have the dress code enforced from the beginning of the year and not halfway through because the administration wants some grant!

i agree, anyone who is saying it is the teachers fault is wrong. At most, there could be one, POSSIBLY two teachers who don't do their job to the best of their ability. As a junior, I can say that all of my teachers have tried their hardest to help me pass, even ace, their classes!!! The Teachers work as hard as they possibly can. Most of the students just dont give a darn. And that's their fault. It's a little too late to change the students ideas about school now, but at the moment, I just worry about getting out of school myself and doing the best I possibly can. If I can help a fellow student, I'll try!

hah! I can't think of really one single thing student council has done since homecoming week! ever since 2010, student council hasn't really done much at all! Student council would likely not have even tried to do a single thing about the dress code. The school board may or may not change anything, but the point is that we got out there and expressed what we thought was right, as per our given rights from the constitution.
