JONESBORO, Ga. (AP) _ A Clayton County judge ruled today that
Norresse Haynes' seat on the county school board will remain empty
until a special election July 15th.
The Clayton County school board removed Haynes on March 3rd
after a police investigation revealed he was living in another
county. A later investigation by Secretary of State Karen Handel
showed that he is a resident of Clayton County.
After he was removed, Haynes filed a suit claiming the move was
illegal and asked a judge to halt the special election. Superior
Court Judge Deborah Benefield refused to hear evidence in the case.
The board is fighting to save the district's accreditation,
which will be stripped by the Southern Association of Colleges and
School on September 1st unless nine goals are met.
