VSU Golf in Contention at NCAA Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – Valdosta State shot a first round 297 (+13) to stand
seventh after the first round of the NCAA South Regional at the par-71,
6,805-yard Grey Rock Golf Course Monday.

West Florida and Florida Southern led the regional action after the
first round of play as each shot a five-under 279. Nova Southeastern
tallied a 284 (E) to stand third while North Alabama was in fourth with
a five-over 289. Lynn and Barry tied for fifth at 294 (+7) while
Florida Tech tallied a 302 (+18) to finish the day eighth.

VSU’s Brent Witcher tied for eighth on the day as he tallied an
even-par 71 while Nathaniel Balanis tied for 22nd with a 74 (+3). Jason
Flowers and Cole Willis tied for 31st with a pair of 76’s (+5) while
Chad Smith shot a 79 (+8) to finish the first round 42nd.

The tournament continues with the second round Tuesday morning
beginning at 8:30 a.m.
