CLEVELAND, Ga. (AP) _ Authorities in White County in northeast Georgia are keeping a close eye on conditions after a breach in the dam at Wendy Lake.
A large hole was reported in the dam about 9 p.m. yesterday.
White County Fire Chief Dickey Howard says an hour later one-third of the water in the lake had drained, causing two creeks to rise.
Officials monitored the situation throughout the night. People living with a 6-mile area were told they should be prepared to evacuate if necessary. Howard says the dam is in jeopardy of failing.
