Ga. DOT to Choose New Board Member

ATLANTA (AP) _ State lawmakers from the 9th Congressional District will select a new member of the state Department of Transportation board.

The vote is scheduled for 3 p.m. Thursday at the state Capitol.

The person chosen will replace Mike Evans of Cumming. He resigned as chairman of the DOT board April 17 after informing the board of his personal relationship with state Transportation Commissioner Gena Abraham. The board reprimanded her for not disclosing the relationship sooner.

Evans said May 20 that he had asked Abraham to marry him after a ten-week relationship. They plan a small wedding this summer.

The congressional district includes much of northeast Georgia.
