Unemployment Claims in Georgia Down Over Past Month

The Georgia Department of Labor says over 44,000 laid-off workers filed for unemployment in May.

This is down more than 13% from April, but up nearly 30% over the past year.

Initial unemployment claims are a good indicator of how the economy is doing.

While the latest monthly numbers statewide are down, the city of Valdosta saw an increase of more than 34% from April to May
