The first Father's Day was celebrated in 1910 and the holiday was officially signed into law in 1972.
Hallmark says this is the fourth largest card-selling holiday in the US, with 105 million cards expected to be exchanged.
Paul Griggs drove hundreds of miles to spend the holiday with his son.
Griggs says, "Its very special, to be home alone on Father's Day without your kids is sad, so it was special for us to be able to come up here."
Griggs' son, Christopher, says, "Being in medical school, there's very few opportunities to spend with my parents, I mean, they're only seven hours away but any chance I get, its fun to spend it with them."
The Census Bureau says some popular Father's Day gifts are, you guessed it! Tools...such as hammers, wrenches and screwdrivers.
