BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) -- Two Georgia teenagers have pleaded not guilty to murdering a baby who was shot in the face during what authorities described as an attempted street robbery.

Court records show both 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins and 15-year-old Dominique Lang entered their pleas in writing and waived arraignment before a judge that was scheduled for Thursday morning in Brunswick along the Georgia coast.

The teens are charged in the March 21 slaying of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago. Authorities say Elkins shot the child in his stroller as he and Lang tried to rob the baby's mother.

Both teenagers have been charged as adults.

BRUNSWICK, Ga. (AP) -- The lawyer for a suspect in the shooting death of a baby who was killed in his stroller says his client is "absolutely" not guilty.

Public defender Kevin Gough tells The Associated Press that 17-year-old De'Marquise Elkins, who faces a murder charge, "is absolutely, 1,000 percent not guilty."

Gough made the comments as he prepares for Elkins' first court appearance Monday afternoon.

Earlier, a 14-year-old boy who also faces a murder charge appeared in court Monday morning in the death of 13-month-old Antonio Santiago in Brunswick.

The baby was killed Thursday morning as his mother, Sherry West, walked him on a Brunswick street. West said two boys confronted her and one of them opened fire. Police say she was shot in the leg, and her baby was shot in the face.

Sherry West was walking with her son in a stroller through her historic neighborhood in Brunswick Thursday when she was accosted by two teens. She was shot in the leg and a bullet grazed her ear before her son was shot.

West says her 18-year-old son was killed in a stabbing in New Jersey in 2008.

In the Georgia case, 17-year-old De'Marquis Elkins is charged as an adult with first-degree murder, along with a 14-year-old who was not identified because he is a juvenile.
