Cairo Police have not yet released the identity of the victim at this time because they have not notified the next of kin.

Police say they are classifying the death as a homicide but are not releasing the cause of death because they are still investigating.

Investigators are busy talking to anyone in the neighborhood who may have a clue about the mystery man whose body was found at this home.

"My friend called me and he told me my friend Jose, he found somebody dying in this house," said Cairo resident, Alex Cruz.

The call came in to the Cairo Police Department around noon on Monday.

Authorities say an area landlord was checking on his rental property at 1397 9th Avenue, when he found a Hispanic male lying dead outside the home.

Police have teamed up with the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, and say solving a death as bizarre as this takes footwork.

"Nowadays everyone is under the misconception that every case is solved off of forensics because of television shows. But a lot of times it's not a finger print or DNA that solves a case, it's eyewitness testimony," said Lt. Wandell Asbell from the Cairo Police Department Investigation Unit.

Authorities say they do not know how long the body had been there. And when asked about the nature of the man's, death they stopped short of calling it a murder.

However, they did call it suspicious and say they believe it involves foul play.

"It's very rare to just find a deceased body. We are in the process now of interviewing people in the neighborhood trying to find out not only what led up to this person's death, but also who the offender might be," said Asbell.

The body is being sent to Atlanta for an autopsy and authorities are hoping it leads to some solid answers.

A spokesperson from the Cairo Police Department says they do not think drugs or gang activity played a part in the man's death.
