New York, NY (AP) - The stock market is closing strongly a day after
a big-sell off brought on by concerns over a slowdown in China.
All segments of the Standard and Poor's 500 index are finishing
with gains Wednesday. Airline stocks had a good day, with American
Airlines' parent company AMR Corp. up 13 percent and Delta Air
Lines up 11 percent.
According to preliminary calculations, the Dow Jones industrial
average is closing up 129, or 1.2 percent, at 11,107.
The broader S&P 500 is up 12, or 1.1 percent, at 1,178, while
the Nasdaq is up 20, or 0.8 percent, at 2,457.
Trading volume on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange came
to 1.1 billion shares. Rising shares outpaced falling once three to
