Valdosta, GA - Two candidates. Both life-long Law Enforcers. Both running for Sheriff of Brooks County, Georgia.

"I love Law Enforcement. I've always liked to be in the Administrative roll," said Republican Sheriff candidate Matt Elsberry.

"I've dedicated my life to Law Enforcement and to the people of Brooks County," said Incumbent Democratic Sheriff Mike Dewey.

Democratic Sheriff Mike Dewey was born and raised in Quitman. He is married and has a son. He started working for the Brooks Sheriff's Department at age 19 as a jailer. And finally became Sheriff four years ago in 2009.

"Sometimes my phone rings at three or four o'clock in the morning as much as it does at three or four in the afternoon. And that's fine. If I can help somebody that's what I'm here for," Sheriff Dewey said.

Republican Challenger Matt Elsberry has worked as an investigator in both the Brooks and Lowndes County Sheriff's Departments. He lives in Troupville in Brooks County with his wife and four kids. He runs his own business from home called "South Georgia Information Technology Services".

Elsberry says he left the Brooks Sheriff's Department in 2010 to focus on his business and spend more time with his kids. But now they're old enough that he's ready to move forward.

"I have a knack for building policies, and analyzing numbers. I'm very good with a budget. And I think I could pro-actively manage this Sheriff's office," said Elsberry.

Now it's for Brooks County voters to decide who they want sitting in that sheriffs seat come November 6th.
