Public Rallies To Save Cotton Mill

Lowndes County, Georgia- September 4, 2012

A group of Lowndes County residents are rallying to save the Remerton Mill.

The Strickland Cotton Mill was marked for demolition by the city in June, but that decision was postponed due to public outcry.

They held a meeting Tuesday evening at the Remerton City Council Work Session to discuss alternatives. They will also be at the September 10th City Council meeting where the council will vote again on whether to tear it down.

It is said to be the last surviving textile mill in South Georgia. The owners can not afford to keep it and the city can not afford to take it.
So now this group of local residents are trying to save it.
