[UPDATE] Brother Sentenced in Deadly DUI Crash

Tallahassee, FL October 2, 2012, 6:07pm - A drunk driving crash will send a man to prison for the death of his own brother.

Local football star Erik Walden was killed last September 2011, his brother, Anthony, was behind the wheel that night. He has been sentenced for DUI manslaughter.

Anthony Walden was sentenced to four years in prison for the crash that killed his younger brother.

Erik Walden was a former star quarterback at Thomas County Central High School.

He was killed in a crash off of North Meridian Road in Leon County last September. Troopers say Anthony was driving drunk when he lost control of their car and slammed into a tree.

Walden was sentenced to four years in prison - that's the minimum for DUI manslaughter. He'll serve another five years on probation after that.

Anthony Walden plead no contest in July to DUI manslaughter that killed his brother

28 year old Anthony Walden was sentenced to Four years on a DUI manslaughter charge and five years probation once released, in the crash that killed his younger brother Erik.

The accident happened in September in 2011 on Meridian road. Several friends who were in the car and survived actually spoke for Walden today asking the judge for lenience.

You could see Walden get very emotional when his father asked the judge to give the minimum sentence then it was his turn. He apologized to family and friends for putting them through this. He wore his Army uniform during the process.

Obviously a sad ending for a family in grieving.


October 2, 2012 4:24 pm - Anthony Walden sentenced to minimum 4 years in prison plus five years probation after time served.


Previous Story July 16, 2012 - Anthony Walden entered a no contest plea to DUI manslaughter charges this afternoon in the death of his brother, Erik.

Walden faces between four and 22 years in prison at sentencing.

Attorneys are comparing calendars before setting a sentencing date.

Previous Story January 10, 2011 - A man accused in the drunk driving death of his own brother is back in Tallahassee to face charges.

Anthony Walden was booked into the Leon County Jail Monday night and released on bond about an hour later.

He was initially arrested in North Carolina just before Christmas.

Walden is accused of DUI manslaughter in the death of his younger brother.

Erik Walden who was a former star quartberack with the Thomas County Central Yellow Jackets.

The crash happened on North Meridian Road on September 17, 2011.

Troopers said there was a strong odor of alcohol in the car that night and there were also several alcoholic beverage containers in the Monte Carlo.

Arrest papers show Anthony Walden's blood alcohol level was .092 when he was tested at the hospital nearly three hours after the crash.

Arrest papers say the Walden brothers and two other men had attended the Central - Cairo football game earlier that night.


Previous Story January 5th, 2012 - On December 20th, 2011, at 4:40 p.m., Anthony Jerome Walden was arrested on the following charges in Cumberland County, North Carolina in relation to the crash he was involved in on September 17th, 2011.

Walden is charged with DUI Manslaughter, DUI Serious Bodily Injury, DUI Personal Injury, DUI Property Damage.


Previous Story September 20, 2011- Almost 10 years ago, Erik Walden quarterbacked the Thomas County Yellow Jackets to back-to-back semifinal appearances and that's how he will always be remembered.

Florida Highway Patrol says Walden died in a single car crash over the weekend. He was the passenger at the time. The vehicle was driven by his older brother Anthony Walden, the two were rushed to the hospital in critical condition. Around 11 o'clock Sunday morning Erik passed away.

"Just a shame, such a talented God-given ability with his athleticism, but also a quality young man," says Walden's former teacher Randy Young.

Funeral arrangements have not been set. Anthony Walden is said to still be in critical condition.


Previous Story September 18, 2011 - On Sunday morning September 18th, 2011, one of the passengers, Erik Walden succumbed to the injuries he sustained from the crash. Erik Walden was pronounced deceased at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital by doctors Dr. Muhnand Al Hasan and Dr. Christopher Rumana at 10:55 a.m.

FHP says 27-year-old Anthony Walden of Thomasville was driving a two door Chevrolet when he crossed over the middle lane and hit a tree.

Walden and three passengers were transported to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.

Anthony and Erik Walden, also from Thomasville, are currently listed as being in critical condition.
