The search is on tonight for a suspected armed robber.
Valdosta Police say he stabbed an elderly woman in her home while demanding money.

An 80-year-old woman and her 17-year-old grand daughter were at home last night when the attack happened.

Now the teen is being hailed as a hero by her family for what she did to stop the situation from getting any worse.

Says teen, DeAmber Linder: "Because I saved my grandma from getting hurt more than she did."

Police are searching for 21-year-old Freddrick Tooley.
The victims say Tooley is a distant relative and acquaintance of the family.

Police say he went to the home around 9:30 Tuesday night, threatened the family with a kitchen knife and cut 80-year-old Dorothy Linder on the arm.

Says Dorothy Linder: "I'm feeling good. I'm sore but other than that I'm feeling good."

The Linder family says that Tooley walked right in through the garage and knocked on the back door asking for a friend's phone number.

That friend was Linder's great grandson Devionne.
The elder Linder said she spotted the knife by Tooley's side, and she tried to shut him out, but he forced his way back in the home.
Police say that's when the scuffle began.

Says DeAmber Linder: "I'm just happy that I was here because you never know what could happen. He probably would have done worse."

DeAmber says she fought with Tooley, grabbed the knife and started swinging. She says he got the knife back but the scuffle was enough to make him take off out the backdoor leaving the weapon behind.

Police say Tooley stole the family's car- A burgundy 2002 Chevrolet Impala.

Dorothy says there's an important lesson in all of this: "Be careful who you open the door for, because people you know will do things you wouldn't think they would do."
