Georgia drivers are making the switch to new license plates.

There are two new designs to choose from. There is a simple image of a peach against a white backdrop, or a more colorful design featuring peaches surrounded by green hills and a plush blue sky.

Eyewitness News reporter Greg Gullberg asked Valdosta residents which one they like more.

"I like the one with the peaches, the trees and the little background scenery of the sky," said Valdosta resident Tatiana Hill.

"Because it brings out what our state is known for, the peaches," said
Valdosta resident Chastity McClain.

"Because the one we already have now is kind of plain already," said Valdosta resident Bryan Thomas.

The new plates are available now statewide. Drivers can pick them up either when they renew their vehicle registration or when they register a vehicle for the first time.

The new tags will replace standard plates issued before December 2003. But anyone who got their plates within the past nine years will not have to make the switch.

Anyone with specialty plates issued before December 2003 can keep them until May 2013.

The new colorful car tags were designed by the winner of the 2011 Georgia License Plate contest Linda Sosebee of Forsyth, Georgia.
