Valdosta, Georgia - July 30, 2012 -

According to Sheriff Chris Prine, on Saturday, July 28 at around 10:00 AM deputies from the department’s Interstate Criminal Enforcement unit stopped a vehicle on Interstate 75 near the thirteen mile marker for a traffic violation. During the stop, consent to search the vehicle was obtained and a number of credit cards and Florida driver license in various names were found. The occupants of the vehicle were detained while the cards were investigated. During an investigation, deputies and investigators learned that the credit cards and driver license had been stolen from various persons and locations in south Florida. At least ten {10} different victims have been identified thus far. Deputies are attempting to contact all of the victims and are working together with the appropriate law enforcement agencies.

These persons are being held at the Lowndes County Jail and will appear before a Magistrate Judge for an arraignment hearing where a bond will be considered. Additional charges may be made as the investigation progresses.

Sheriff Prine stated that these arrests illustrate how the efforts of the Sheriff’s Office, specifically the Interstate Criminal Enforcement unit not only affect Lowndes County but may have prevented the occurrence of other crimes thereby having a far reaching implication.
