Valdosta, GA - The brotherhood felt here is worth lining up for.

Hundreds came out St. John AME Church in Valdosta for a free Thanksgiving dinner.

"It's so important because a lot of people are hurting and we being Christians are supposed to come out and help," said Eddie Koonce, one of the main organizers.

"If the neighborhood doesn't take care of the neighborhood, who is going to take care of them," asked Willie Pressley, a local man who came for the feast.

St. John AME has been doing this for 15 years. But after the recession, they say the turn out has been higher and higher each year.

Georgia and Kentucky are tied for the 5th highest poverty rate in the country according to the U.S. Census Bureau. In fact, here in Georgia 19% of residents live below the poverty line.

Volunteers offered more than food, but free clothes and even hair cuts.

"I've got a lot to be thankful for this year," said Travis Lane, a member at the church and volunteer at the dinner. "I thought I'd just come out and give some of my time."

Churches like this are proof that even in a down economy, we can still find relief from the recession in each other.
