This Friday the Mega Million jackpot is at a record high. The prize is valued at $500 million. Eyewitness News reporter Eames Yates spoke to Georgia residents about what they'd do if dreams came true.
Jim Singleton said "Well I mean I watched that segment on TV about the lottery winners who are broke within five years. So I would absolutely be broke within five years and all my friends and family would be extremely happy."
Eric Henderson said "I would retire immediately. I would retire, I would retire my wife, my mother, my father. I would retire the whole family."
One lucky woman from Pinetta Florida, Pamela Knight, scored a mega millions win of $40,000 when she bought her ticket at a local gas station in Valdosta.
There is a 1 in 175 million chance of winning the jackpot ticket. The largest jackpot ever won in Georgia so far was for $390 million dollars. That happened in 2007.
The Georgia Lottery began operating in 1993. Since then it has returned more than $13 billion to the state for education. It helps fund Georgia's HOPE scholarship and Pre-K program. More than 2.5 million young people have been helped as a result of lottery profits.
