A joint investigation involving the Cook County Sheriff's Office, US Department of Homeland Security, and the United States Air Force Office of Special Investigations has led to the arrest of a Sparks man for charges related to an attempt to acquire underage children for sex.

Sheriff Doug Hanks announces that John Raymond Anderson, 38, of 304.5 North Goodman Street, Sparks, Georgia has been arrested and charged with Criminal Attempt to Commit Child Molestation and is currently incarcerated at the Cook County Jail.

The charges stem from an online undercover operation in which Anderson is accused of sending messages to a person in an attempt to acquire two (2) minor children to bring to his residence for sexual relations. Anderson instead was communicating with an undercover law enforcement agent who then arranged for Anderson to meet and discuss picking up the children. Anderson was arrested by law enforcement when he arrived at what he believed was the meeting.

Further investigation after the arrest led to the discovery of outstanding warrants for Anderson from South Carolina charging him with two (2) counts of Criminal Sexual Contact with a Minor for offenses committed in that state.

"You would think with all of the publicity of undercover Internet operations conducted by law enforcement it would help to reduce the number of criminals prowling online for the sole purpose of sexually exploiting children", stated Sheriff Hanks. "The problem seems to be that a lot of adults probably aren't aware that these predators are accessing the same sites most people commonly use, especially kids, so we as law enforcement continue to stand between children and these disturbed individuals, but parents need to pay attention to what their kids are doing online. Be a parent, it's OK to check", added Hanks.

The investigation is ongoing and it is anticipated that Anderson will face federal charges stemming from the investigation. Anyone with information that can assist in this investigation or has information of a similar incident is asked to contact the Cook County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Division at 229-896-7471 or the US Department of Homeland Security at 229-430-2591.
