New York, NY (AP) - Stocks edged higher to close out one of the
stock market's best months of the year.
The Dow Jones industrial average traded in a tight range Friday.

percent, to close at 11,118. The S&P 500 is down 1, to 1,183, and
the Nasdaq composite is up less than a point at 2,507.
Every major stock index is ending October with gains of more
than 3 percent. The Nasdaq is finishing October up 5.9 percent.
Three shares rose for every two that fell on the New York Stock
Exchange, where volume came to 1 billion shares.
