Stocks End Mixed Amid Question About Fed Plan

New York, NY (AP) - Stocks are finishing mixed amid concerns that
the Federal Reserve's plan to spur the economy might be smaller
than anticipated.
A newspaper report suggested that the central bank may not move
as quickly as traders expected. Traders were also disappointed by
news that growth in manufacturing is slowing.
According to preliminary calculations, The Dow Jones industrial
average is down 43, or 0.4 percent, to close at 11,126. It had been
down nearly 150 points earlier in the day.
The S&P 500 is down 3, or 0.3 percent, at 1,182, while the
Nasdaq composite is up 6, or 0.2 percent, at 2,503.
Two stocks fell for every one that rose on the New York Stock
Exchange, where trading volume came to 1 billion shares.
