Stocks End the Week with Meager Gains

New York, NY (AP) - Stocks are ending the week on a mixed note after
China took more steps to curb inflation, which traders fear could
slow down the country's growth.

The Chinese government on Friday ordered banks in that country
to hold more reserves. The goal is to curb lending and avoid
speculative bubbles.

According to preliminary calculations, the Dow Jones industrial
average rose 22, or 0.2 percent, to close at 11,204. It finished
the week up 0.1 percent.

The S&P 500 index rose 3, or 0.3 percent, to 1,200. The Nasdaq
is up 4, or 0.2 percent, to 2,518. It is the only major market
index to end the week with a loss.

Two shares rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock
Exchange. Volume was 1.1 billion shares.
