New Yor, NY (AP) - Stocks are finishing with gains as investors
await the results of elections that are expected to give
Republicans at least partial control of Congress.
Small companies are up significantly. The Russell 2000, the
index that tracks smaller companies, rose 2 percent.
Traders are also waiting for the Federal Reserve to wrap up a
meeting Wednesday where it is expected to announce plans to
stimulate the economy.
According to preliminary data, the Dow Jones industrial average
is up 64, or 0.6 percent, to 11,189. The S&P 500 is up 9, or 0.8
percent, at 1,194, while the Nasdaq composite is up 29, or 1.1
percent, at 2,534.
Three stocks rose for every one that fell on the New York Stock
Exchange, where trading volume came to 913 million shares.
