The Lesser Known Details of the Upcoming T-SPLOST Vote

As the Georgia primaries draw near the T-SPLOST tax is arguably one of the most important issues up for debate. The additional penny tax on all purchases in our district would go to help fund transportation projects and repairs.

But many still have some basic questions about the tax. For example, if it doesn't pass in Lowndes County could Lowndes still be affected? The answer is yes, if it gets more than 50% of the combined popular vote, the whole district will be affected.

Valdosta local, Charles Askew Jr., said "I don't support it at all. I don't like it and I think we pay enough taxes already."

Another local, Floyd Smith Jr., said "It's nothing that we can't spare. And if it's going to improve our environment, our neighborhood, you know I'm all for it."

Others ask if the issue passes will funds leave the district to go elsewhere in the state? The answer... no. 100% of the tax collected in each district would stay in that district to fund local projects. It seems the whole community has an opinion.. Including those that can't legally take part in the decision.

9-year old Kaitlyn Pearson said "we need the roads fixed so it doesn't mess up my momma's tires."

The primary is set for this Tuesday the 31st. Polls will be open from 7AM to 7PM.
