Thomasville's Rose City Band Tuning up for Rose Show and Festival

Thomasville, GA --- March 31, 2012

The Thomasville Rose City Band rehearses every Saturday morning from 10 a.m. until noon. The band is relatively new and are here because of their love of music.

"It was an idea for a couple years I've been working on the concept of giving someone the opportunity to play who has played in the past, because there's nothing for them once they graduate high school," said the band's executive director Thomas Wagner.

The band prides itself on being for the community. They have members from Thomasville, Moultrie, Pelham, Colquitt, and Tallahassee.

The conductor, Kerry Anne Simon, is a doctoral candidate at FSU. She couldn't refuse the opportunity when asked to lead the ensemble.

"I actually got an email, and I was approached by people who just wanted to play music, and I couldn't say no to that...I couldn't say no. Not as an educator," said Simon.

Ranging from young and old, the members of the Rose City Band get all jazzed up just being able to play together

"I get a rush just from being with these folks and playing...we're a bunch of musicians that didn't have an outlet before," said Rick Stirewalt, a band member who's been there since the beginning.

If you want to get involved, the Rose City Band is looking for those with prior band experience over the age of 16. Contact Thomas Wagner via email at Or look up the Rose City Band on Facebook.
