Valdosta, GA - After f46 years in education, Valdosta City School Superintendent Bill Cason will be retiring. His shoes will be tough to fill... but someone's got to do it.

Cason said "we started with 30 some odd candidates, narrowed it down to 5 and now we're down to 3."

Those three are Deborah Demps, William Hunter and Martin Roesch. Demps' experience is mainly in Brooks County where she served as a teacher and then principal of Quitman Elementary. Her goal: highlighting parent involvement.

She said "making it a place that it would be okay for parents to come. You know, having an open door policy would be key."

William Hunter has previously served as a superintendent in Georgia for 16 years.

He said "I would just like to be a part of making Valdosta Schools one of the best school systems certainly in the south."

The last candidate, Martin Roesch, is no stranger to Valdosta. He's been the assistant superintendent since 2008.

He said "one of my priorities of course would be our early intervention program to make sure we catch our kids who are struggling early."

The decision is expected to be made by the end February.
