Valdosta, GA -- March 23, 2012 --

26 student athletes from Valdosta State University spent their spring break in the Bahamas.

But instead of beaches and parties, they focused their attention on helping under-privileged children.

It was part of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes. They set a record for being the largest group to ever serve on a foreign mission trip.

One of the student athletes spoke about his connection with the kids.

VSU student Chris Pope says, "Over time they saw the good in us. And it was kind of a rougher area and I just felt like we brought a lot of light and, you know, a lot of glory to that school. And it was just wonderful. They didn't want us to leave, we didn't want to leave. It was just a wonderful time."

The student-athletes spent their days teaching conflict resolution. In the afternoon they would play basketball, soccer and dodgeball with the kids.
