The Valdosta Chamber of Commerce is celebrating its 100th anniversary, and to do so they are aiming to plant 100 trees to beautify the Azalea City.

They have completed a stretch of trees along the median of Saint Augustine Road, that serves as a gateway from the airport into the Valdosta community.

65 trees have been planted so far through the generosity of the Chamber, City of Valdosta, local businesses and private citizens, but that still leaves them 35 more to meet their goal.

Carla Penny is the Chairman of the Centennial Planning Committee. She tells Eyewitness News reporter Greg Gullberg her vision for the project.

"We were thinking of the past, the present and the future. Certainly the trees symbolize growth and prosperity and it's a wonderful partnership between private and public sectors," Penny said.

Trees can be purchased for $500 each. More information is available through the Valdosta Chamber of Commerce.
