The City of Valdosta is one step closer to solving its sewage issues.
The Mayor, City Manager, and others broke ground today on the City's new Force Main Project. Instead of having the wastewater flow with gravity that is used in the current system the new project will force the wastewater to the treatment plant.
City Manager, Larry Hanson, says they expect this project to solve over fifty percent of the inflow problems in the city.
Larry Hanson, Valdosta City Manger said, "Putting it under pressure means you can pump it. And then having this 6-million gallon equalization basin, means even if you have a major rain event that you didn't anticipate and you have more flow than you thought, you've got a 6-million gallon hole in the ground that is your backup to hold that."
The new Force Main project is being built right next to the new Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant. Both are expected to be finished in December of 2015.
