ATLANTA (AP) -- Morehouse School of Medicine has been rated
number one in the country among schools training primary care
physicians to work in underserved areas.
The rankings are part of a first-ever study of U.S. medical
schools in the area of social mission, a role emphasized as
critical to improving the country's overall health care. The study
was funded with a grant from the Josiah Macy Jr. Foundation and
appears in the June 15 Annals of Internal Medicine.
According to the study, graduates from the top-ranked schools
are the most likely to practice the kind of medicine needed under
