GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP) -- A north Florida teen has been sentenced
to six years in prison for the stabbing death of a Gainesville man.

Court records show 18-year-old Terrill Gardner was sentenced
after pleading no contest last week to manslaughter and battery in
the death of 22-year-old Michael Deshawn Jones.

Authorities say Jones and two other men confronted Gardener in
November 2008 about rumors he was supposedly spreading around their apartment complex, but Gardner managed to get inside his home and grab a 10-inch knife. He then went back outside and threatened
Jones. The two fought, and Jones was stabbed.

Prosecutors acknowledged that the case was complicated. The
defense was prepared to argue over events leading up to the
stabbing, including that Gardner was confronted by the adults.
