Amy and Shaun McNulty are longtime New Orleans residents, and were forced to evacuate their new home just before Hurricane Gustav hit.

"We've evacuated a number of times, the most recent was Katrina. Before that we had hurricanes like Hurricane George was a mandatory evacuation," said hurricane evacuee Amy McNulty.

But instead of heading north like thousands of others, Shaun and a very pregnant Amy, embarked on the seven hour drive to Thomasville, Georgia.

"I was nervous that if I got stuck in the counterflow traffic 15 hours like my parents did that I would maybe deliver where we didn't know where the closest hospital was," said Amy.

The couple made it safely to Southwest Georgia, but ironically Amy went into labor on, you guessed it Labor Day itself.

"It happened so quick she went into labor at 5:15 and here we are a little after midnight having a baby and it was scary," said new father Shaun McNulty.

Ten other family members and ten dogs join the McNulty family in Thomasville and Cairo. Amys Godmother's daughter Heather is housing many of them.

And all those involved say Sadie Lind is living proof, there's a silver lining to every storm.

"Everybody can be together and they can be together and I'm just so honored that they took us up on it and I can't believe she actually had the baby while she was here," said Heather Maxwell.

"We're going to become Bulldog fans after this no we're LSU fans but we're defiantly going to share these memories and you know we have a lot of good things to say about Thomasville," said Amy.

"It's like everything is coming together even though we're not home right now it's coming together," said Shaun.

The couple has received word their house was not damaged during the storm and plan on heading home sometime this week.

"It was definitely a blessing I think everything had progressed perfectly from getting a house to selling our house you know moving everything in, setting up everything and then finding out that nothing was wrong you know we have a perfectly good house to go home to," said Amy.

And the couple will go home with a perfectly health baby as well.
